Barbados residents can instantly pay all their utility bills from their smartphones now that SurePay is accepting mobile payments through the mMoney app. The formal agreement between Massy Technologies InfoCom (Barbados) Ltd. and Bitt Digital Inc. was signed and announced on October 1st at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, during Smart Barbados Week 2019.
SurePay’s first venture into accepting digital payments was eagerly anticipated by both parties, as the “coming together of two innovative products and services will greatly improve the SurePay customer service experience” according to Bruce Mackenzie, Chief Strategy Officer of Massy Holdings Ltd.
Anthony Yearwood, Director of ICT Sales at Massy Technologies InfoCom (Barbados) Ltd., proudly stated “SurePay has been in Barbados for over 15 years. We took the average bill payment process from an hour per bill to 20 minutes for the payment of all bills. mMoney will now mean that the customer transaction process will be reduced from 20 minutes to instant.”
Customers who opt to pay their utility bills digitally via mMoney will instantly receive a time-stamped email and an in-app receipt of the transaction as proof of payment. The initial mMoney/SurePay account setup typically takes less than 10 minutes, following which each payment would take just a few clicks. A public education campaign will soon go live via the digital channels of both brands.
Mr. Yearwood continued, “We have developed a level of trust with the public that we do not take for granted. We therefore conducted rigorous testing of the mMoney/SurePay integration to ensure its full soundness and effectiveness.”
Speaking during the signing of the agreement, Mark Goodridge, Manager of SurePay (Barbados) commented, “mMoney is a good fit for SurePay. We are very proud to offer our loyal customers the latest bill payment option. mMoney transactions are instant and free to the consumer. It is a win-win for SurePay, mMoney and, most importantly, our customers”.
SurePay offers its bill payment services in St. Lucia, Trinidad and Guyana and has over 40 locations across Barbados. Rawdon Adams, CEO of Bitt Digital Inc. sees long-term benefits of the mMoney/SurePay partnership that could potentially reach beyond the borders of Barbados. According to Adams, “this rollout gives people the option to pay their bills wherever they are and whenever they want to — it’s about convenience and saving time. Furthermore, Bitt’s mandate to create a central bank digital currency (CBDC) for the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) would enable SurePay to offer digital bill payments as an option in the countries in the Eastern Caribbean in the near future”.
